Club AGM - 27th February

The AGM will be on at 19:30 on Monday 27th February at the Open House Pub, Springfield Road, Brighton.  If you have any agenda items please send them to Paul Thatcher before the AGM.

All members are encouraged to attend and contribute at the AGM, it is the best opportunity give input into how the club should be run and to also meet other members and the committee.

 

In Memory of C.F. Aldridge 1929-2011

The club recently received a letter from the widow of Mr C.F. Aldridge (known as Frank) who saddly passed away last November.  He was an active and accomplished member of the club in the 1940's and 1950's.

His wife also very kindly sent his collection of old club handbooks, start sheets, medals and other memorabilia dating from 1947 though to the club's centary year in 1994.  If anyone is interested in seeing these they will be available at the AGM.

 

Brighton Mitre Hard Riders TT - Sunday 12th Feb 2012

The Mitre Hard Riders TT takes place on Sunday 12th Feb @ 9:30 AM on the GS981 course at Poynings.  The course is two laps of an 11 mile circuit starting/finishing in Poynings.

The start is by the sports ground car park on the east side of Poynings, the route then follows the A281 to Henfield before turning south on the A2037 through Small Dole before turning back towards Poynings on the Edburton Road.

This is not a course just for those with TT frames and pointy helmets so please come along and have a go on your road bike.  There is a Club Trophy for the winner which is currently held by Mike Coyle.  This year there will also be a Club Medal for the fastest finisher on a road bike.

Entry is on the day and costs £3.

Bridge the gap - Come and try it ride to Social Ride

Message from Gez Martin re: Shorter/Slower paced social ride this Saturday:

I'm attempting to organise a group to ride on Saturdays from the Café Nero which will cater for people not as yet quite up to speed/distance of the regular Social Ride but have enjoyed the Come and Try It Ride and would like to ride more regularly with a group.

This group will look to bridge the gap between the CATI Ride and the Social Ride with perhaps an average pace of around 13-15mph initially and probably cover about 30-40 miles but will look to increase both speed and distance over time. I guess as people get quicker and more used to the miles they will choose to go with the main social ride, if they become members.

Although posting this I'm a total novice as compared to those guys who lead CATI rides so can't take on that role, but am happy to be the person to speak to about this and if you make yourself known to me at Nero I'll be the point of contact for everyone.

Right now there is no group established and it will begin with myself and a pal who are Mitre members but still off the pace of the Social Ride. We will be there this Saturday from around 8am leaving at 8.30 following the Social Ride and will peel off either at Albourne or more likely whenever we get dropped!

Riders need to meet the same requirements as you would for the CATI Ride, which are posted on the main Mitre site!

Mitre Membership 2012

When we put the membership online in 2011 we moved to a rolling membership, so if you joined online then your membership is valid for 12 months from the date you joined and you will renew at the end of that 12 months.  If you joined before membership went online then your membership will have expired at 31 December 2011 and you will need to renew now for 2012.

If you are due to renew now and we have your email address then we'll email you with details on how to renew online.  If we don't have your email address or you don't receive the email then please let us know by emailing membership@brightonmitre.com.

Please note that there is no longer a couples membership as this was a hangover from yesteryear when the partner was assumed to be a non-riding member.

 

Surrey League 2012

The Surrey Cycle Racing League is using RiderHQ to administer membership and race entries for 2012.  The race calendar at http://surreyleague.co.uk/calendar.htm and entries are open for the first few races.

Before you can enter a race you have to join the Surrey League, this costs £20 which includes a £20 discount for being a Mitre member.  Your Mitre membership has to be confirmed before you get this discount, which is all done in the background between RiderHQ and Mitre.

Come and Try it Ride - 7th January 2012

This Saturday is the first Come and Try It Ride of the new year.  These rides are to encourage riders who are new to road cycling to join the club on a shorter group ride run separately from the main social ride. We will be riding together as a group at a pace which will suit all riders - if you feel you need something quicker and are a more confident cyclist the main social ride will suit you better.  

You do not have to be a club member to join this ride, however you do need:

• A road bike in good working order. If you have clipless pedals you need to be confident using them
• 1 (or more) spare inner tubes, tyre levers and a mini-pump
• Food and drink for a ride of this duration
• Riders are encouraged to check their bike is in working condition before the ride

The route will be decided on the day dependent upon the numbers and experience within the group but should be no longer than 3 hours.  The weather is hopefully set to be ok but be aware it will be considerably windy.  

If you would like to give it a try, we meet at Café Nero in Hove at 8:00am for an 8:30am depart this Saturday. Please note that we may not go via Albourne, so if you wish to join in head to the Café. 

The rider leader is Alan Buttler, please ask for him when you arrive and he’ll make you feel welcome!
