After much negotiation we have finally settled the details for our Surrey League road race this year. It will be on Sunday 17 July as originally announced and will be held on the Kirdford circuit which is the nearest circuit that is available that week. The race HQ will be Loxwood Sports Association and the race timetable is as follows:
- 09:30 – 3rd Cats only
- 13:30 – 2nd and 3rd Cats
We are now looking for a minimum of 24 volunteers to help run the event, broken down as follows:
- 14 marshalls
- 4 car drivers (ideally with car)
- 2 signing-on officials
- 2 catering help
- 2 judges
Please remember that every rider registered with the league is required to help out with at least one event per year under the condition of membership. At last count, we had 29 registered riders, making us the 3rd largest club in the league. On that basis, we should not have any problems getting enough help!
Ideally, it would help if people were available for the whole day but if you can only make either the morning or the afternoon that will still be a great help. In addition, assuming we have enough support, we will accept entries from Mitre riders for either race as long as that rider then helps out for the other event. We will also willingly accept help from wives/husbands/partners etc.
As this point we are only looking for a list of names, we’ll allocate roles nearer the time. However if you are interested in driving, please let us know. Ideally you need to have a reasonable amount of experience of racing on open roads to do this and also be prepared to use your own vehicle. Mileage will be paid and you will be covered by British Cycling insurance during the event.
Rob Fuller is the race organiser so please let him know if you can help out. rob.fuller@ctc.org.uk
