Social Ride - Sat 30th April

The social ride this week will use a club favourite, the "Ardingly Loop".  There are a few hills for those wanting to stretch their legs but the group will be riding at a social pace and coming back togethor after each hill.

Please come prepared, familiarise yourself with the route in advance, bring spare tubes, food, cash etc.  The aim is for the group to stay togethor but you must be confident enought to ride by yourself in case you are separated.

The average speed of the ride will be around 15/16 mph so we should be back in Brighton for 12.

 

Mill Hill hill climb results - 26th April 2011

The second of the two early season Mill Hill hill climbs took place on Tuesday 26th April.

A tough headwind meant that the course record was never going to be threatened, but that didn't stop there being a brilliant turnout of 20 riders, with some first-timers attending.

Tracy Harris improved on last week's 3rd place by taking the win this week, with Phil Allen being beaten into second place once again.

The fastest lady was Claire Rank, with a time of 12.47.

Brighton Mitre Hilly 10 & 25 Results

The Brighton Mitre Hilly 10 and Hilly 25 time trials took place over the bank holiday weekend, with a number of Mitre riders competing in each.

Peter Tadros proved his form was as scorching as the weather, taking the win and course records in both events.

Half price British Cycling membership for new members

For some time British cycling has been offering racing members a discounted introductory membership. They are now offering a similar discount to Brighton Mitre's non-racing members who wish to join British Cycling for the first time. The two types of British Cycling membership available to club members are:

1.) Half price Ride membership for any non-racing Brighton Mitre member

2.) Free Race Bronze membership for any Brighton Mitre member who races (Silver for U16s)

Brighton Mitre members can join British Cycling online at britishcycling.org.uk and can access the discount by using the promotional code CLUB4 when buying membership.

Mitre Hill Climb Result 19th April

Making Robin very happy 21 riders (20 from Mitre) signed on for the first Mitre Hill Climb of 2011.  Next week he might even have to bring the spare numbers.

Greg Woodhouse won with 9:00 and Gina McGeever was the fastest lady with 10:50.

Truleigh Hill hill-climb time trials - 19th and 26th April

This a reminder to all you Mitres out there to partake in the Truleigh Hill hill-climb time trials that are taking place on the 19th and 26th April (both Tuesday evenings). Truleigh Hill is a climb that can be ridden well by true climbers and burly time-trialists alike, due to the low gradient of the climb. Due to it's length, it is also great for building the sort of strength that will serve you well in a break in a race.

So, for all you Mitre riders who fancy testing themselves, or have aspirations to race and want to improve their power, it will be great to see you down there supporting Robin Johnson, who does a great job in organising these.

Social Ride - Saturday 9th April 2011

Its my turn to lead the social ride this weekend and I'm planning a route which takes in some of courses the club competes on - Balcombe and Lewes Crits.  For those that are interested in racing or plan to race Lewes for the first time the ride will be a good steady paced recc'y of both courses.

We'll follow the usual format of leaving Cafe Nero at 8:30am sharp and riding out to Albourne where the group splits.  We'll take back roads over to Barcombe Cross where pick up the infamous 8 mile Barcombe course for a lap.  Once complete the route heads over to Ringmer where we join the 7 mile Lewes Crits course.  Then its home via Lewes, Plumpton and finally Ditchling Beacon. 

The weather looks pretty good so I'm planning on finishing at Carluccio's in town to sit outside and get some cake!

As always please remember good tyres, some spares and a bit of food to get you round without any hitches.
