With the absence of Felix English it was all to play for in the deciding race in the series with his two main rivals Joshua Cunningham (Ingear Development Squad) & Roger Smith (Wildside 707 RT) on the start & equally with a chance to overhaul Felix for the overall. Furthermore it was it was no surprise both Joshua & Roger were in the break that formed along with Philip Glowinski (VC Londres) & Drew Holmes (Ingear Development Squad) as a result a fast prime lap 10 minutes into the race. Around the halfway through the rain came down again making for tricky conditions which caught Steve Akinson out, crashing whist negotiating a sharp lefthand corner & shortly after bad luck hit Roger Smith as he suffered a puncture ending his chances.
All three of the remaining lead riders tried in vain to get away & despite being numbered 2/1 it was Philip Glowinski who took first place, Joshua Cunningham 2nd (although unfortunately being impeded by a back marker in the final sprint).
With another small Cat 4 field it was again a good ranking points scoring opportunity.
It wasn’t until the later stages of the race did the action commence with both Tracy Harris (Brighton Mitre) & Andy Ralston (Perth CC) finally spitting the group by way of a series of hard attacks. This resulted in the two detaching themselves & fighting it out between them of which Tracy pipping Andy for the win.
So congratulations go to Felix English for being the worthy winner of the first Brighton Mitre Hove Park Series & bravo to all the riders who took part in the series, making for great exciting racing.
